Pickler Memorial Library was completed in 1925, replacing the original library, which was destroyed in the Old Baldwin Hall fire of 1924.  Samuel Pickler, a member of the first graduating class in 1870, donated $25,000 for its construction.

In 1987, the State of Missouri appropriated over $12 million to the University for construction of a new addition and renovations to the existing structure. The new addition was completed in 1991 with renovations to the original building completed in 1993. The current building has some unique architectural features, designed to bridge the past and the present. The walkways, which cross the Atrium on the second and third floors, connect the old building with the new addition. The addition also wraps around the original structure, preserving the library's original facade.

Pickler Memorial Library offers a variety of resources to Truman students. The building is home to the largest computer lab on campus as well as the Teaching & Learning Technology Center. Students also take advantage of the Media Library, Curriculum Library, Special Collections, MOBIUS and Interlibrary Loan, groups study rooms, and a variety of programs and research assistance programs offered through Pickler.
